Voluntary Choir

Our Voluntary Choir is a new initiative at the Cathedral open to adults of all ages the opportunity to sing together in a relaxed and supportive environment. They sing for the 5.30pm Mass each Sunday as well as important feasts and solemnities throughout the year, often with the Cathedral Choir.

Rehearsals take place at 4.30pm on Sundays ahead of the 5.30pm Mass although ad hoc rehearsals take place (usually with the Cathedral Choir) on Thursdays from 7.30-9pm when required for upcoming major celebrations.

The choir’s repertoire encompasses a diverse range of music from Gregorian Chant through to contemporary music, embracing a range of cultures and styles.

New members are always welcome to join this friendly and committed group of singers. Admission to the choir is by informal audition to assess the best place for the applicant in the choir. There is no requirement to be able to read sheet music, although this can be beneficial.

If you are interested in joining the choir, please get in touch with the Cathedral Director of Music, Alex Patterson alex.patterson@dioceseofsalford.org.uk or come and talk to us after Mass one Sunday.
