Choirs

The Cathedral is home to a family of choirs offering progression routes for singers to make music in our beautiful sacred space:

We have a range of opportunities for children and young people to sing at the Cathedral:

  • Our Children’s Choir is open to anyone aged 8 – 12 years old and meets on TUESDAYS from 4.30pm – 5.45pm.

The Children’s Choir rehearsals take place during term time in the Café, accessed from the Centre Car Park on Ford St.

  • Our Girls’ Choir is open to girls with developing voices and meets on TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS from 5pm – 6.30pm.
  • Our Cambiata Boys’ Choir is open to boys with changing voices and meets on THURSDAYS from 5pm – 6.30pm.
  • Our Girls’ Choir and Cambiata Boys’ Choir often join together to form our Youth Choir singing regularly together for Mass and concerts.

Rehearsals for Cambiata Boys’ Choir & Girls’ Choir take place during term time in the Assembly Room of Cathedral House, and are led by Cathedral Director of Music, Alex Patterson, and Choral Director, Kathryn Bradley.

The choirs sing a varied repertoire of both sacred and secular music spanning the centuries and sing for a range of liturgies at the Cathedral, including Masses and Sung Vespers.

There are no subscription fees to join any of our choirs.

For more information about joining the choirs, please contact the Cathedral Director of Music, Alex Patterson alex.patterson@dioceseofsalford.org.uk

The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy. – Sacrosanctum Concilium 112
